Is Change a Good thing?

Is Change a Good thing?

Is change really the best thing to happen to us? Or are we, the creatures of habit, vehemently opposed to change for valid reasons? I say yes to both. I embrace change. It's the most uncomfortable, exciting, gut-wrenching, amazing thing we can put ourselves through.

I recorded an episode this week that will release in the next few weeks. My guest said something that astounded me. It wasn't a phrase and it wasn't a collection of words either. It was him describing his priorities now after telling me about his previous life where he wasn't a priority. What struck me was the nonchalant manner in which he told it to me. I found it beautiful and motivating.

This podcast certainly has challenged me in changing the things about me that need to. Also, it's given me a lifeline to hear about people's experiences and allowed me to recognize things within myself that I'm inspired to change. I've found that change is a constant in my life over the last several years.

Today was my last day at my job. I've accepted a new position at a different company. In fact, this role is much different in the work environment than any other job I've had prior. I've been asked by many friends and relatives if I'm nervous. I found that I am not nervous at all. It's weird, I should have some sort of angst regarding this new journey, or some type of butterflies in my gut. However, the answer is neither.

The reality is that this was a business decision for me and one that I look forward to - plain and simple. My now former employer is a friend and a good one at that. I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to work with her, see her develop and grow, and be a small part of her journey. I'm thankful that the position allowed me to be challenged in new ways and helped me develop my own characteristics. It's a positive experience.

Now back to change. How do you embrace change? What changes are you making? Are you threatened by the thought of failure? Are you nervous about making the right decision?

The right decision is a subjective one in my experience. It's one where people decide on the path based on someone's judgment or experience. I avoid making the right decisions. This is a new concept for me. Instead, I want to make the best decisions. There is certainly a difference between the two.

Regardless, this is me, the unemployed podcaster (for a few days) signing off and hoping that your journey offers many challenges you can overcome - because the reward is fruitful.
