Dean Befort was raised in Niceville, Florida. During his last years of high school, he mixed with different crowds and got addicted to prescription drugs. After graduating from high school, he was introduced to street drugs and things quickly spiraled out of control. Dean struggled with addiction for over 20 years before realizing that life had so much more to offer. Though it was hard, he kicked the habit and has committed the rest of his life to staying clean and making a difference in the lives of others who struggle with substance abuse.

Dean now lives a sober, fulfilling life with his wife and their 2 children. Each day he makes a conscious effort to live life with creativity and wonder. Though there are challenges, he contends that having his family is all he needs to get through the day. Dean began writing children’s books to express his creativity and provide his kids and other children around the world with the same sense of wonder and fun he enjoys. He has written several books and songs including “The Secret of a Sugar Monster.” In his free time, Dean enjoys hitting the waves, spending time with his family, a good concert, and prides himself on never having met a stranger.
